Race Day Instructions

Good evening Bound the Mound participants!  Assuming each of you has already taken a look at the event details, here is some additional information to help you have a great race day experience.

Race Time

All 3 races starts at 8AM. Note that we are in the Central Time Zone. Registration and Packet pick-up are from 6:15AM to 7:45AM.  Please make sure you arrive early enough to be at the starting line on time.

Weather

Current forecasts have the temps ranging from 35 to 50 degrees and partly cloudy with a 10% chance of rain.  Additionally, the weather folks are also calling for 20 mph winds.  Now that won't mean much to you runners because you're gonna be sheltered by the woods; but trust me, you wanna make sure your supporters are dressed accordingly.  50 degrees plus 20 mph winds plus overcast skies = COLD!  They are also calling for a couple storms to blow thru this week so as luck would have it, that will make the course a bit more enjoyable to run.  All of you should have already received the Course Modification email I already sent.  Barring a "100-year flood", the trails will remain quite runnable.

Parking

"There is plenty", and it's all right next to the check-in/registration area, starting line etc....  Don't worry about any long lines trying to park.  If the parking lot does fill, there will be a couple parking attendants that will direct you to a grass field right next to it.  Either way, you'll be in and parked without encountering any traffic jams. (address is 8215 Pollack Ave.,  Evansville, IN  47715 )

Same Day Registration Form

If you know someone else that plans to sign up for the race Saturday morning, there is now a printable registration form

Early Packet Pick Up - Friday 2nd. (Ultimate Fit -1308 S. Green River Rd.  Evansville, IN  47715 - 9AM to 7PM)

We encourage you to pick up your race packet the day before as this will make for a bit smoother race day morning.  However, you can check-in and pick your packet up race day morning from 6:15AM to 7:45AM. IMPORTANT: (This is a change from the original Event Details)  It IS NOT necessary to check in race day morning if you pick your packet up on Friday.

Same Day Registration & Packet Pick-Up

6:15AM to 7:45AM  Look for the tent that says "REGISTRATION" and or "PACKET PICK UP" It will be up by the shelter house at the southwest corner of the parking area.

BIB Numbers (IMPORTANT)

If you have studied the "Who's Coming" roster, you may have noticed that the bib number may give you a clue as to who is running which race.  For example, if you have a bib number of 1032, you would be entered in the 5K, a bib number of 2047 would put you in the 10K, and you guessed it!  If you have a bib number of 4021, you are running the half-mary!  So that first number tells us which race you are in and also tells you how many laps you plan to run.  OK, so why is this so important?  We need to be able see your bib number at ALL TIMES on the course.  And it needs to be worn on the FRONT of your attire.  This tells us and the other runner which race you are in.  If you discard or add clothing during your event, you will need to ensure that your BIB remains visible.  Consider a number belt if necessary.

Special Guest !

We are very pleased to announce that your official race starter is 6 time Olympic qualifier and former world-record holder in the 5000 meters - Anne Audain.  All of the trails you will be running on have been traversed by Anne many, many times as she lives close by and is a huge advocate for Angel Mounds.  Be sure and check out how much of a pioneer Anne has been for womens track and field on her website.

Timing

One of our local race directors will be providing chip-timing for our event.  A disposable timing chip will be included in your race packet which will be worn on your shoe.  Please make sure it is affixed properly.  There will be a starting chute and a finishing chute so we can time your race properly.  Please position yourself in the starting chute based on your anticipated pace.  Walkers please position yourself at the back of the starting chute.  For those running the 10K or half-mary, your lap splits will be collected manually.  Complete race results will be posted to the website withing 48 hours of the events close.

Drop Bags

There will be a designated area right next to the aid station for your drop-bags.

To all participants, there will be a red wristband in your race packet.  Please redeem that at the Angel Mounds food booth for your post-race meal.  Spectators and supporters can purchase food items from the Angel Mounds food booth at their expense.  The wristband will also give you 2 for 1 admission into the Angel Mounds Museum.  You'll have the aid station along with a table at the finish line that will have some snacks and drinks.  Additionally, we will have some snacks on a couple tables that are free for everyone, spectators included!  (while supplies last)  The Angel mounds food booth has also promised us to have plenty of hot coffee on site.  It's a buck a cup.

Awards

Don't forget, awards will be presented to the top 3 overall males and top 3 overall females for each race.  The awards ceremonies will take place at 9:30 for the 5K, 10:30 for the 10K and 11:30 for the Half-Marathon.  Right next the the Southern Indiana Triathlon Team Tent.

Finishers Caps

OK, Had a few questions on this one.

To preface; As a non profit club, The Southern Indiana Triathlon team was not exactly sure how many entrants to expect for this first year race.  Optimistically hoping for 100 people, we ordered 140 running hats. We then posted that the first 140 REGISTRANTS “who complete at least one lap of their race" will get a running hat....and you will.  We are now pushing 200 entries.   Due to the large advance notice we had to give to the manufacturer, we could not order more running hats, but were able to locate a local provider that was able to kick out some nice Bound the Mound running visors on very short notice. Those will be
distributed to entrants 141 and up "who complete at least one lap of their race".

So more plainly put,

Bound the Mound Running Cap -  (if you were among the first 140 to register, and you can haul yourself around that course at least once, you've earned your cap.)
Bound the Mound Visor – (if you are registrant #141 or up, and you can haul yourself around that course at least once, you've earned your visor.)

Just as clarification, even if you are not among the top 140 finishers but your were among the top 140 registrants, you will get your cap at the finish line.  Our volunteers will know which item you get based on your bib number.

You will collect it at the finish line.  Make sense?  If you are not sure whether you are getting a hat or a visor, you can check out the "Who's Coming" page and it has your entry number.

Volunteers

All of you have probably heard this 100 times, but make sure and "thank" the volunteers while you are out there on race day.  Their efforts are what make these events possible.
